**What to look for in a breeder when buying your Golden Retriever Puppy.**


Not every golden retriever breeder has your dog's best interest in mind. There have become more and more breeders who do not follow the recommended or ethical guidelines when it comes to breeding dogs. It's not necessarily because they are "bad people" or have malicious intent for the dogs, but often because of a lack of knowledge and/or neglect in educating themselves about responsible breeding. Unfortunately, this lack of knowledge and negligence can often lead to poor care and unsafe/unhealthy outcomes for the dogs.


We take pride in our planned, purposeful breeding process and our dogs' overall health, ensuring that they get the best possible care & treatment all year round. We have even rescued a few dogs from breeders who do not follow these higher standards. We've had those rescued dogs spayed/neutered, caught up on recommended medications/vaccines, and found them loving homes in hopes of stopping the cycle from continuing. 


We want to share the checklist below to help educate and assist others in their search for a healthy, quality golden retriever puppy. It is a great resource to use when vetting other breeders. Feel free to use the checklist in your own search for your "furever friend"!!

 "The Golden Cottage"


We (us and the dogs) are absolutely loving the space! It’s complete with a fenced-in backyard (dog run), an office, an open area for our potential buyers to come and connect with our golden retriever puppies, and a dog bathing & grooming station.


We followed best practice guidelines when building our kennel and have maintained our license through the Department of Agriculture.

LISA UPDATE


Lisa welcomed seven beautiful puppies in December with our stud Watson! This was her first litter, and she fell right into the motherly instincts! We are so proud of her! All seven puppies went to their forever homes in early February and are doing wonderful with their new families! If you are one of the lucky owners of a Lisa and Watson puppy, please make sure you are added to the private Lisa and Watson Facebook group and keep sending us pictures! :)

CLEO UPDATE


Cleo had eight beautiful puppies toward the end of December with our stud Watson!! Cleo is truly the most lovely, sweet dog, and she is one of the best mothers ever! All of her past litters have inherited her amazing demeanor, and we know these puppies will be just as wonderful as she is! This was her last litter, and as much as we will miss Cleo puppies, we are so proud of her and are happy to have her sitting on our couch and giving us hugs for the rest of her days! :)

 


JOLENE, DOLLY, CONNIE, and TONI UPDATE


Our younger girls, Jolene, Dolly, Connie, and Toni all recently turned 2 or will soon be turning 2! They have all been genetically tested and all are genetically cleared! On April 1st, all four went to Veterinary Medicine at University of Illinois for ophthalmology and cardiology appointments to have their hearts and eyes checked, and everything looks great!
