**What to look for in a breeder when buying your Golden Retriever Puppy.**
Not every golden retriever breeder has your dog's best interest in mind. There have become more and more breeders who do not follow the recommended or ethical guidelines when it comes to breeding dogs. It's not necessarily because they are "bad people" or have malicious intent for the dogs, but often because of a lack of knowledge and/or neglect in educating themselves about responsible breeding. Unfortunately, this lack of knowledge and negligence can often lead to poor care and unsafe/unhealthy outcomes for the dogs.
We take pride in our planned, purposeful breeding process and our dogs' overall health, ensuring that they get the best possible care & treatment all year round. We have even rescued a few dogs from breeders who do not follow these higher standards. We've had those rescued dogs spayed/neutered, caught up on recommended medications/vaccines, and found them loving homes in hopes of stopping the cycle from continuing.
We want to share the checklist below to help educate and assist others in their search for a healthy, quality golden retriever puppy. It is a great resource to use when vetting other breeders. Feel free to use the checklist in your own search for your "furever friend"!!

We now know…
We recently took Lisa to be artificially inseminated in hopes of her first litter. Unfortunately, we were unable to complete the process.
Through the process, it came to our attention that her cervix may have a malformation preventing her from getting pregnant naturally in the past and artificially through insemination.
We plan to follow up with the reproductive veterinarian to know for sure. However, it is very possible that she may never have a litter of her own. No matter what we find out, she will still remain a part of our golden family!!

***Help us celebrate!! ***
It has been a full year now of having our kennel which we like to call "The Golden Cottage"!!
We (us and the dogs) are absolutely loving the space! It’s complete with a fenced-in backyard (dog run), an office, an open area for our potential buyers to come and connect with our golden retriever puppies, and a dog bathing & grooming station.
We followed best practice guidelines when building our kennel and have maintained our license through the Department of Agriculture.
**Give us a nudge**
If you've been on our waitlist for a Hakman’s Golden Retriever Pup, please reach out to Dana and give her a nudge to confirm your spot!
We know some of you may have taken a different route due to timeline or convenience, which we completely respect. We also want to confirm those who are still interested and patiently waiting. 😊
Thank you!!

The countdown is on!!!
On August 17th we will find out if our sweet Sophie is pregnant.
Fingers crossed that we will have some beautiful Hakman’s Golden Retriever Pups late this fall!!
Stay tuned for updates next week!
***Cleo Update***
We have some great news to share about our Cleo girl! Despite her surgeries earlier this year, she has been recovering exceptionally well. We are hopeful for a litter of Golden Retriever pups from her in January 2023.
Thank you for all the well wishes and prayers you sent up for her!

***Potential Upcoming Litters***
Pending mother nature's blessing, there is a possibility of 3 upcoming Golden retriever litters in the next several months. (Sophie, Lisa, & Cleo-- in that order)
I know many of you have been patiently waiting for a Hakman's Golden Retriever puppy and we greatly appreciate that. We thank you for your patience and understanding!
Stay tuned for updates!
***Cleo Update***
For the second time in the last 12 months, our sweet Cleo has had surgery for a bowel obstruction. She had surgery a year ago, again two weeks ago, and after a couple of days at home, went back for another surgery. She is doing well now and at home resting.
We want only the very best for her and unfortunately, that may mean no more puppies. We will make decisions, based on her condition, during her next heat cycle which should be November 2022. Thank you for understanding!
We continue to hope for one more Sophie litter and future litters from Pearl and Lisa. We will continue to share updates along the way!

***Walking, hiking, & running with Hakman’s Goldens***
Our Golden Retrievers make the perfect partner!!….(you know what I mean 😉). They love being active and going on walks, hikes, and runs with their owners!!
Here are a few photos of our past pups.
***New Amenities at the Golden Cottage***
We had our bathing station installed recently in our kennel. Here's Chris testing it out with one of our dogs.
To those of you who have been patiently waiting for a Hakman’s Golden Retriever puppy, we want to thank you for your patience and understanding! We take pride in being transparent, keeping you all updated, and doing what’s best for our dogs morally, ethically, & health-wise. Despite our best efforts, mother nature has not been on our side when it comes to having puppies this spring.
We have had several of you reach out to us to let us know you will continue to wait for a Hakman’s Golden Retriever puppy because you trust us and our process with our dogs. We just want to let you know that means the world to us!! We like to say our business is just “neighbors loving neighbors” and we truly mean that. We have built all of our relationships based on trust from the very beginning and continue to do so moving forward.
Although there haven’t been any puppies this spring, we have still been keeping up with other aspects of our business. We’ve installed a 6ft. fenced-in play area for our dogs to give them plenty of space to run and stay safe. We’ve purchased a few GPS collars to use when our dogs are out roaming our property and even kept up with all the other fun stuff. You know, like maintaining our kennel license & filing all our tax documents. ;) All joking aside though, we are here to continue to serve you and hope for better outcomes this summer & fall.
Mixed Breed Puppies (All puppies have been adopted!)
To our dismay, given that our plan was to give Cleo a rest this time around, we now have 4 black puppies looking for their fur-ever home (male and female available for a go-home day of March 8th).
Our sweet Cleo apparently attracted our neighbor dog's attention during her most recent heat, despite our best efforts of keeping her distanced from other dogs.
The puppies' Embark DNA tests report a mixed breed of:
• 50% golden retriever
• 29.7% Siberian Husky
• 20.3% Mastiff.
Owners of the stud report he has a very docile & playful disposition. Cleo is an American Golden Retriever (light-colored, curly coat) with a gentle, loving disposition & a history of proven litters.
2022 Waitlist Full
Our 2022 waitlist is currently full and we will no longer be taking new names. We do, however, believe that everyone should experience the love of a golden retriever and are always happy to help connect you to another breeder who can better meet your needs and timeline! Feel free to reach out via email to inquire about other golden retriever breeders. We are always happy to help!
Happy Birthday!!
Wishing many of our sweet Goldens a very Happy Birthday this month!! Here are a few photos that have been shared in our litter-specific Facebook groups over the past few weeks and we couldn't resist sharing them!!
As you may have heard, our sweet Myla has been missing now going on 4 weeks. We let her out to run and play as we have always done and she unfortunately never returned home. We will never give up looking for her & ask if anyone sees her please let us know!! We have now reached out to a local fencing company to install a fence around our property as well as purchased GPS collars for our dogs to ens
On a happier note, Pearl and Watson had their OFA testing completed last week 11/30/21 and they both passed their OFA certification for hips, elbows, eyes, and heart!!
We have also been busy behind the scenes getting our systems ironed out and documents up-to-date with help from our fantastic graphic and web assistant, Mallory Jansen with Jansen Virtual Solutions, LLC. We want to provide your family with a wonderful experience and have the process be as seamless as possible, so we are constantly looking for ways to improve our processes and uplevel our services
